complex French furniture, from Gulbenkian collection to
Niarkos.
Formerly, to repair a marquetery was synonym to wear out it and to bring it
to its disappearance, because it was necessary to send out the veneer having
restuck it. Today, cabinetmakers researchers, whom we greet here, brought us
modern methods of restoration which allow us to repair a marquetry without wearing
it out. One of the big difficulties of the restoration of furniture, it is to
know how to find or preserve a homogeneous and sweet colour of wood. The risk
is big to obtain a flashy piece of furniture among which the too thick and brilliant
varnish, as the pedal of the piano, would hide badly an evident lack of technique
